A big thanks to all who who attended both or our forums on Cook County Government and Taxes.  We thought it’d be hard to get over a hundred people together, but we did...for both events.

Starting a small business has always been a risky proposition. The courage and determination that it takes to start a business is what probably makes us all instinctively cheer for anyone who does. Many people do it despite knowing that the odds are stacked against them, knowing that competition these days can come from any corner of the world. Yet many still say: “I’m taking the plunge!”

But many small businesses now realize they took the plunge in the wrong place: Cook County.

The bottom line: If you located your business in Cook County, bought a store or some other commercial property, and didn’t make friends with the right people in county government, you’re paying an absolutely destructive amount of property tax. You’re paying an amount that has become so high that it not only eats up a tremendous amount of your cash flow but also destroys the value of your property.

To bring attention to this, to fight for relief for small and independent businesses and their employees and customers, we formed the Cook County Coalition for Tax Relief.
